Ashley Sharek Explains Next Steps After Pittsburgh Woman’s Dying Wish Goes Unfulfilled

When a Squirrel Hill woman passed away hoping to donate her home to Make-A-Wish, her neighbors were heartbroken to see that dream stall in legal limbo. CBS Pittsburgh recently covered the story of Francine George, whose wish to turn her home into a gift for children was left unfulfilled after the charity was unable to accept real estate donations.

In the report, Estate Planning Attorney Ashley Sharek of Entrusted Legacy Law shared insight on what happens next and how similar situations can be avoided.

“Basically, the default under Pennsylvania law is that we find some long-lost distant relative, and they're now the heir,” Sharek explained. She emphasized the importance of naming backup beneficiaries and choosing an executor a generation younger to ensure wishes are carried out as intended.

This story serves as a powerful reminder of why thoughtful estate planning matters—not only to protect your legacy but to honor the heart behind your final wishes.
